One Course. Two Parts.

How Part 1 & Part 2 Work

The full course is 12 hours, split into two 6-hour sessions. Register for both parts. They do not need to be on consecutive days.

Step 1

Part 1 — Basic & Extended Instruction

$99 5–11 PM 6 Hours

Begin with the basic course alongside 4-hour students. When those students finish at 9 PM, 12-hour students stay until 11 PM for additional instruction.

Step 2

Part 2 — Extended Instruction

Additional $75 5–11 PM 6 Hours

Return for the remaining extended instruction, including Colorado CHP classroom training and the required course testing.

$174 total for the complete 12-hour course. Part 1 is $99 and Part 2 is an additional $75. Booking Part 1 does not automatically reserve Part 2. Complete a separate registration for each session.

Get Eligible

Complete the eligibility process and receive your firearm safety course eligibility card.

Complete Part 1

Attend from 5–11 PM for the first six hours of your course.

Complete Part 2

Attend your second six-hour session to complete the extended instruction.

Pass the Course Exam

Successfully complete the required testing. Your instructor reports your course completion.

Do I need to register for both parts?

Yes. The full 12-hour course requires Part 1 and Part 2. Each session has its own registration. Booking one does not automatically reserve the other.

Do the two parts need to be on consecutive days?

No. You can take the two parts on non-consecutive dates. Complete Part 1 first, then attend Part 2. Twelve-hour students attend both sessions from 5–11 PM.

Is CHP classroom training included?

Yes. Colorado CHP classroom instruction is included in the full 12-hour course at no additional classroom cost.

What do I need to bring to class?

Have your government-issued photo ID and course eligibility card ready. Review each booking confirmation for the location and any additional class instructions.

How much does the complete course cost?

The regular total is $174: $99 for Part 1 and an additional $75 for Part 2.

What happens after I complete both parts?

After you successfully complete the course and required testing, your instructor reports your completion through the state’s Firearm Safety System. You can then proceed through the required SSF purchase or transfer process with a licensed Colorado firearm dealer.
